Exploring Duopody Reflexology Techniques

Perhaps you have had a Duopody Reflexology treatment, or you are intrigued about the possibility of treating both feet simultaneously in your reflexology practice.

Duopody is part of the CAREA matrix – one of the 3 techniques which are exclusively taught on the Level 5 Diploma in Applied Reflexology for Integrated Reflexology.

Duopody was developed by Sue Alma Evans, co-author (with Annie Trigg) of The Pody Charts. As the name suggests, Duopody reflexology involves treating both feet simultaneously – but there is more to it than that.

This approach also works each system of the body more comprehensively than many other forms of reflexology, and this systemic approach, combined with working the feet together as a holistic micro reflection of the whole macro body, creates a thorough and highly effective treatment that our students, graduates and clients love!

Just looking at the Pody Charts will demonstrate the attention to detail Duopody reflexologists are taught – our foot charts are based on direct anatomical reflection and so all our micro placements make sense and their teaching is embedded within the relevant anatomy, physiology and pathology for each system.

Duopody is also kind to the practitioner. Some forms of reflexology rely on excessive force through the practitioner’s hands – and the thumbs in particular. But Duopody is gentle on the practitioner’s hands and joints, as we use organic movement coming from the body rather than solely from the hands. Many reflexologists are taught to treat one foot at a time, and to support the foot they are treating with one hand while carrying out their techniques with the other hand. In Duopody, treating both feet together means that the client’s feet will move slightly as they are being worked, and excessive force literally cannot be applied by the practitioner.

Treating both feet simultaneously also means that we sit – and sometimes stand – centrally. This is again beneficial for our posture as practitioners – perfect if you want your reflexology career to be a long one!

Learning Duopody is a life changing experience, whether you are new to reflexology or already have a busy reflexology practice. Get in touch with us to start your Duopody journey!
